Do you like candy? Have you ever wondered how it is made? How it was started? Well, you're in luck because this post -more importantly this BLOG- is all about the making and history of the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.
Harry Burnett Reese was the creator of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. There is not much information about his childhood. There have been a line of Reeses, currently being H.B Reese's grandson.
Being an employee of Milton Hershey, Harry Reese was inspired. He worked as a farmer for Milton and the two had a very good relationship. In 1928, he decided to branch off from Hershey and start his own candy company. Nobody was surprised when after Reese died, his company was sold to Hershey.
Reese's Candy Co weirdly started in Harry Reese's basement. They used Hershey's for the outer chocolate. The H. B. Reese Candy Company originally made a variety of different candies, but Reese's "Penny Cups" were the favorite. After awhile, Reese decided to cut off all the lines except for the penny cups, as all the other lines were not selling half as well and it was wasting the company's money to manufacture candy that didn't sell. The penny cups finally turned into Peanut Butter Cups, as we know them today. Hershey had tons of factories, all of them luxorious. One of them is in Canada and has a resort complete with a pool and spa. You used to be able to get a tour and stay the night at the hotel for $5!! A lot of Hershey's factories were not as nice, but all were not at all dirty. Ever since, the slogans have changed. The first was, "Made in chocolate town, so they must be good!" Another one was, "There is no wrong way to eat a Reese's!" The current one is, "Perfect". The world's largest Reese's is 10.5 inches long and 5 inches wide.
